last weekend i ended up hatching at least 570 shroomish eggs on gen 6 , and i didn't get a shiny, im not sure if i'll be able to do it again

You get the shiny charm from completing the alolan dex now.

You weaken the pokemon (false swipe works great) and toss the orb. Then they call for help. if they don't call for help/it doesn't succeed, just toss additional orbs to "pass" your turn. You won't actually lose the additional ones as it says "It doesn't work" and it won't remove it from your inventory despite you trying to use it.

Also make sure to have a shit ton of Leppas/other PP recovery. You'll need it.

It took me 31 beast balls to get Smeargle, who has a catch rate of 45. So you will need to stock up insanely if you want to do something with a low catch rate. It's time consuming to get the one ball at the time, but worth it.

I'd recommend doing a utility pokemon though. A syncher (can be any nature, since the sync is determined by the first nature in the party as long as the sync pokemon is on the field for SOS chaining... Weird glitch), a cute charmer, a pick up slave, a catch slave, etc.

I did smeargle first as a catching slave. I picked beast ball because the animation is very rainbowy, and I didn't have much faith I'd get it in the single level ball/fast ball the game provided for me. Just make sure false swipe first before killing the non-shiny smeargle, because if it misses sketch, it'll suicide fast. (False swipe also has 40 PP, so it'll save your ass for 40 rounds. After that, smearlge will struggle to death.)

You get it from a guy in the Battle Tree if you've hatched at least 20 eggs. You can get there pretty quickly after the Elite Four if you go straight there, though there's a couple tough fights depending on your levels.

I've been playing since Gen 1, got the shiny charm early in XY (like a week after bank came out in Japan), and I still only had three random shinies ever. Unown when collecting seals, a random deerling when filling up my boxes to help organize between two games, and a chikorita I SR in 10 minutes on HGSS.

I guess my Rampardos counts too. I purposely had same language parents and still got a shiny. (and had some surprise MM when breeding for IVs with my foreign parents, but at least I was sort of expecting those)

Everything else was dexnav/friend safari where the chances are higher. My fucking husband has gotten a random shiny in every game, no shiny charm, since he started playing with me in Gen 4. It hasn't happened yet in Gen 7, but it most likely will.

The "links" in the "chain" are the reinforcements themselves, the only thing that matters is that you are creating the conditions for help to arrive (i.e. don't status the caller, or leave an unrelated species left). The pokemon themselves have no bearing on the chain.

In terms of how chain odds are calculated, they don't seem to be exponential - shiny and HA chance is consistent for all reinforcements, however you need to go up to +40 if you're looking to get a pokemon with four perfect IVs.

How do you get high chains? I know False Swipe + Adrenaline Orb at the start, and to KO the original if A) it's likely about to struggle, or B) the thing shows up shiny, and to never KO the pokemon of the evolution line you want if another species shows up, but how in the world do you get 50+? That would take forever.
