You just have to put the Pokemon in and come back the next day and they're EV trained. It takes longer, but it's zero effort if you don't need a fully trained Pokemon right away. You can also train several at once.

that's not a good argument, that just means 10mins of horde training x 16 is 160mins or 2hrs 40mins. They're right, horde training IS better. But I do like Pelago as a secondary method. You can control EXACTLY how many EVs you want to put in without having to worry about over training for one of those weird EV spread mon.

Fully training a stat in minimum 15 hours is pretty good. I have no power items either which is the only thing that makes chaining bearable.

Come back the next day and a half and it's just under half trained...if you're doing a straight 252/252/4 split. Otherwise you need to use a whole section of the island to train your specific EV combination, and check in when it needs to be changed. Either way, at level 3, it can train a single pokemon to full in minimum 62.5 hours, but you can do it in parallel for up to 18 pokemon, depending on what you need to train.

You can lower evs with some berries. The berry piles renew every day so it shouldn't be hard to get a pretty big library of berries, and the berry growing island in poke pelago can house up to 18 planted berries. There's probably a better way to reset evs but I don't know what those are off the top of my head.

Friendship Parlor, the various Secret Meals each lower a specific stat's EVs to zero. You can only buy them from the shop if you've beaten the E4 and have a Plaza rank of 30+ though, and from what I can tell by looking at Serebii, either the highest rank (which has all the meals, and the ones for Spd and Spe are exclusive to it) or maybe the whole restaurant altogether is exclusive to Sun, so order it from somebody in the Plaza if you have Moon.

There is no decent way to farm them. You can either fish all day for a small chance at getting some caps, win a bunch at the Battle Tree and hope you get one as a reward, or you can farm for 30 of the same color shard. After all that, you can grind a Pokemon to level 100 in order to actually use Hyper Training.

Probably a dumb question, but can I just go through the game normally without worrying about EVs and such and then focus on them when I'm finished the main game?

I guess what I'm asking is that are there things I should be doing/collecting during my casual first story play through that would screw me over/help me later?

I should also say I've barely read up on the game yet and just started, so I'm not really sure how the whole EV training/breeding goes this time around, but I loved horde training last gen.
