I just want a rival where it feels like an accomplishment to beat him story wise not just me going through the motions of making him know his place. Don't get me wrong, Hau gave me a good run when he first evolved his A-Raichu and it knew Electro Ball and Psychic in the low 20's, but at the end of the day the story never makes him feel like a threat.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a game which had different rivals to match the gender of your character. Because the only way we've ever seen girl rivals is with boy players., and since they're an unused PC they invariably have bland personalities.

It'd be one thing if the situation degenerated into this because of their obsession with winning, but it was this way from the very beginning. With May and Brendan its even worse because one is supposed to be romantically attracted to the other- but since they both are bound to the same dialogue, it just feels like an unnatural mess too.
