based on what I had seen online, I didnt expect to get her until close to the endgame. There I was at the secluded shore and I saw a bubbling fish spot so I decided to give it a go. Pulled up this cutie and she proceeded to be my teams fastest and most potent physical attacker.

I was expecting Alola Grimer to be a shitmon you find halfway through the game. Turns out he was on one of the first routes and kicked all sorts of ass. Poison Fang made Totem Lunantis into his bitch.

I'm still kind of frustrated with the evolution level (which has never changed so it's not this game's fault in particular). All of my party are fully evolved and he's not. He can tank some hits but currently fails to contribute beyond stalling someone down by making contact with Infestation + Poison Touch and Protect spamming while they take 25% of their HP per round. Which does win battles but mine's Adamant and waiting to be able to actually hit stuff.

Minior in-game almost feels like cheating because in a real battle you can't just chuck out a 49% HP Minior from the start and immediately shit on opponents' Pokemon with great coverage before they can even act.

I'd still rather Shell Smash but you really can get away with going first, hitting weaknesses and not being punished while using it this way in game, and before level 45.

I had a poor experience with Washi later in the game.

Basically a short amount of time before I got to fight Lusamine the second time, he just seemed to fall off. The low base HP was so abysmal that he got 1-shot by most enemies, despite having monstrous defenses.

This. Ribombee has been my best and most consistent pokemon all throughout my playthrough

Adamant for pure physical or something good for mixed; it's possible to even run pure special and Modest but there's a bit of a power gap. Its physical moves are the best ones but it can learn Power Gem and a kind of odd assortment of special TMs (and could be a funny Solar Beam user in a mixed set that eats its Power Herb to get a surprise kill on a grass-weak Pokemon and then can bonk things with Acrobatics). When using it as a mixed Pokemon I'm actually not sure if it's a good idea to decrease one of its defenses with a nature, since it relies so heavily on being hit into a specific range and doesn't actually have tons of bulk even with shields up due to low HP.

And also this. Wishiwashi was a total monster to begin with but as the Pokémon around it got stronger, faster, and bulkier it definitely lost a lot of steam. I found that it picked back up towards the end when I started playing it smarter, gave it Ice Beam, etc.

I expected Stufful and Bewear to be only sort of bulky but not enough to withstand anything, and physically strong, but nothing to write home about. Instead I got a beefy megaton punching monster that shreds just about everything.
