Nah, as long as they have Max EVs it is fine. I went in using Mimkyu as a lead and kept getting wiped, did some more battles and got an effort ribbon on Mimikyu, went back using the same team and did all four ranks in one try each.

I think the game would run faster if the HUD had the trainer's face and that was it. Just your face next to the line of pokeballs under your HP bar, and your enemy's face next to their line of balls. And also separate lines for each separate trainer (useful in Multi Battles) that show each trainer's name.
