Is there any downside to using the Exp. Share if you don't

You might be over leveled if you're not rotating through more than 6 pokemon

the game was made with EXP share in mind. i used it the whole game and was on average 2 levels over e4

Being a higher level than the e4 is a horrible thing, they're brutally disadvantaged against you already in every way and levels were supposed to be their only savior.

Not really!
In fact, as opposed to the Exp. All, I'm pretty sure it's actually generating more exp than you would have gotten otherwise.
