Rowan has to be one of my favorite professors in pokemons, I feel like Kukui could've been a lot more interesting if GF didn't make everything about him so confusing, I mean he seems pretty passionate about overall research and loves the trainers and pokemons of alola a lot to the point of establishing a league because of that
What I didn't like very much about them though is that his speech pattern lost it charm very fast, I appreciate adding hawaiian speech in but it just felt a bit cringe-worthy at time
And don't get me started on the whole thing with Guzma that was a bit of a mess since they only interacted once.
Overall I like Kukui, I just wished game freak flushed him out a little more and I can't get my hopes up on the anime or the manga on that
