Yeah, it's fantastic. You basically get two different roles in one Pokémon.

The ability NEVER re-activates after Goli falls under 50%, either. So you essentially just need to predict when the switch will happen and use priority or something to ensure damage and then enjoy a free switch into an advantageous Pokémon. Then bring your now unburdened Golisopod back later in the game to pick off frail and weakened mons.
