Come on. The trials are boring and uninspired, you're pretty much on rails the whole game and have no freedom. The sense of exploration is completely gone.

I agree that it feels more like XD than the normal games, but I don't actually have a problem with that. The captains/kahunas/totem pokemon provide a solid and more dynamic replacement for gyms. I don't miss the old formula much, the only thing that annoyed me is some of the cutscenes felt suffocating. Especially between Lusamine1 and Lusamine2. That entire segment was just running from cutscene of Lillie being cute to cutscene of Lillie being cute.
