Gen VI launched pretty early and worldwide and some people didn't want to buy a 3DS, a controversial console, just for pokemon.
Pokemon Go made the pokemon franchise public again.
Add the new hype building marketing with trailer once a week (at the cost of less content to discover) and the preorders will go through the roof.
