They're useful in nuzlockes. If you can set up against the first Pokemon of a hard trainer you can just sweep the whole team.

i always used them in BW/BW2
instead of wasting a turn getting flinched by grimsleys liepard might as well pop one of these instead

Had to use the Def and spDef ones for wishiwashi and lurantis totem battles
