It will spread to any Pokemon touching it or adjacent to it in your party, and then spread from there. It's really easy to cross-infect.
Good luck on your part though! I got a Pokerus infection in my first playthrough as well.

Pokerus is a virus your pokemon can catch that will spread to the rest of your party, while infected the pokemon will recieve more XP and EVs, but it will not catch pokerus again once they get better.

Pokerus is a permanent virus for Pokemon. You have until the little title goes away until every infected Pokemon gets its base HP halved. If you put it into a box, all of the other Pokemon in that box get infected with it too. You'll be fucking surprised how fast that shit spreads.

It's contagious for the first 24 hours, and then the Pokerus icon is replaced with a smiley face icon, at which means the Pokemon still has the benefit but is not contagious any more. The 24-hour timer is frozen while the Pokemon is deposited in the PC.

You should save a contagious carrier in the PC so you can infect more mons later, so you should deposit your owl. Or, if you want to use him, infect one or two other mons and throw them in a box.

So, to be actually serious and not an asshole troll, I do want to talk about the pokerus in S/M because I actually caught it about a week ago when the cias hit and I've noticed an actual change:

It hasn't gone away yet. Used to be, leave a mon in your party when midnight ticks over and the pokerus is cured and it just has the non-contagious smiley symbol. A week later, however, and my entire party is still contagious.

It's actually kind of annoying because it takes up the status slot on the UI if it has no status, and it's just unnecessary clutter.
