How do you know they aren't nicknamed and just don't say it? They don't actually talk when they throw out the Pokemon, but you do, cause you're the player character.

there are people who trade but don't battle and people who battle but don't trade
also idk how it is in sm, but in gen 6 nicknames are not displayed in the battle spot, only in pss battles (and pss is gone in sm)

I think OP meant in-game trades have pokemon with nicknames, but pokemon you battle in-game don't. But this guy >>30009361 is right.
