Let it on, but never kill wild mons, or you may be overleveled around late-mid game.
Turn it off and you'll be severly underleveled around late game.

Man it's not a one time thing. Turn it off if you feel overleveled, on if you feel underleveled. Not a hard concept.

How does it work with the gen 5 Exp? If the lead gets 1000 exp, for example, do all the others get 500, or is it adjusted for their level?

Playing with it off and the game is actually a touch challenging so far. Actually wiped to the Trial Captain fuccboi and his Smeargle which knows a Grass move.
