What's with the new artstyle? I've been out of touch with the Pokémon anime since the end of Sinnoh and only a few episodes here and there.

Have they got a new studio/staff working on it? It feels more like a superflat artstyle, which I guess should be easier to animate? But from what I saw of X&Y, the animation quality and production values were superb.

I think Lillie will end up winning the Ash.

She's pristine white which is important to Japan. She's gonna have that whole Lusamine + aether + UB + Cosmog arc and whatnot focused on her and she will get a ponytail cut to show her changing from that shy girl that can't touch pokemon to someone who can, trains them and isn't afraid anymore.

Either way, as nice as Mallow's butt is, I think in the end Ash will get with Lillie and then take her back to Kanto with him.

Under Disney's tenure, the dub has the possibility of:

A) Longer openings, no more 15 cut second shit (Disney currently allows Yokai Watch to air the full unaltered 1:30 min OP)

B) Will premiere new episodes in glorious primetime like it currently does in nippon instead of in the morning, allowing for greater exposure

C) Disney will market it with actual promos and advertising, perhaps even for individual episodes/arcs

D) could air next to Yokai Watch wherein both shows doubly benefit each other by sharing much of the same audience (people who watch Yokai will want to watch Pokemon and vice versa)

E) More reruns. Period. Yokai Watch is currenrtly aired every weekday.

Even if you don't really give a shit about the dub, this is very interesting to speculate about. TPCi says the network switch is "big", so we'll just have to see.

I'm glad a lot of people are liking the new look for the series.

I would check in on the episodes/clips of XY that people were praising for having cool fights (though from what I understand people liked the continuing storyline a lot too) and while I thought they were well done, they weren't really to my taste.
When I saw the new series I was intrigued - and after watching these first two episodes, I really love the direction/animation. If they keep this level of quality consistent I'll be excited to watch.

What I don't like about Sun Moon so far is that it feels like everyone other than Kiawe will just be glorified cheerleaders during most episodes. Lillie will do the exposition, Mallow will say "Satoshi...", Lana will look cute and Sophocles will be comedic relief.

What most likely happened was that Cartoon Network had signed some kind of a contract renewal with each new saga (DP, BW, XY etc etc) to keep the show on their networks (including Boomerang)

Due to either SM's shift in focus to full comedy or simply not giving a fuck about the dub anymore and licensed programming in general as opposed to their own original programming, they probably decided just not to renew the show after XYZ, leaving the U.S. rights to the show in the air for like the first time since Kids fucking WB shut down.

Ergo, TPCi is looking for another distributor to air the show, this is when Disney steps in and buys it. Flashforward to today, the mouse now has the TV rights to every single episode of Pokemon SM or otherwise and nearly every movie.

I don't even think CN will be allowed to finish XYZ before dropping it, it looks like it's completely vanishing from their schedule after Nov 19th. It isn't scheduled to air anywhere after that date.

I agree it was pretty chill, but I can already sense that I'm simply not going to be excited to watch it like I was with most of XY and XY&Z. The "hype factor" simply isn't there with S/M, thanks to its lax, slice-of-life feel. The first two episodes were fine for what they were, but they didn't give me much to feel excited about. Kapu Kokeko watched Ash for quite a while and saw, for whatever reason, some potential in Ash.
Maybe he knows Ash will need to be strong to protect Alola or this specific island from some threat later on, who knows, but either way it very clearly tried to teach Ash about Z rings and stones, how to use them and how to actually unleash the full power of your pokémon.

I doubt it does this just for fun. It's the deity guardian of the island, there'll be more to it eventually.
