In my opinion it is legitimately impossible to be a "nerd" over something as exposed as Pokemon. Just like you can't be a nerd over Game of Thrones or Dr. Who. People seem to think that nerdiness just denotes any speculative fiction, even though speculative fiction is probably the most mainstream it's ever been.

Nerdy shit has to be actually obscure. Like, bootleg AV equipment or Hungarian animation or something. Not something necessarily embarrassing, but something that makes the average Joe think "what the fuck". That's how I see it at least.
