A combination of both. This thing has an incredible ability that gives it stab on all normal moves that also increases the power of said moves by 30%...supposedly nerfed to 20% in S/M but that's still not bad.

It has access to a very strong special move that bypasses substitutes, along with access to Wish, Calm Mind, Toxic, or the occasional coverage move. With a respectable HP stat, great SpD stat, and a mediocre albeit usable defense stat.

It's an amazing Wish Passer that can also hold it's own in battle IF need be.

The Pure fairy typing is also pretty decent. Only TWO weaknesses in poison and steel, an immunity to dragon, an resistance to bug, dark, and fighting.

Offensively, it hits dragons, fighting types, and dark types. Both this and M-Gardevior managed to send Scrafty and Hydreigon to the Shadow Relm...or RU/UU respectively if you prefer.

It also helps that it has an adorable cry and is just fucking cute as a button.

Friendship and Affection are two completely different mechanics, anon. Friendship mechanics didn't change. They should be the same as how you remember them.

Affection is a new mechanic introduced in gen 6 that is exclusive to the new interaction mechanic. Amie in gen 6 and....whatever they call it in gen 7, I can't remember. It's basically Nintendo Petz with pokemon.

Play with them, rub them in their special place...ehh...and feed them treats. It raises the Affection of whatever pokemon you're interacting with.

I don't know if things change in S/M, but in gen 6 games, Maxing out Affection, besides allowing Eevee to evolve into Sylveon, gives you a greater experience yield, an increased critical hit ratio, and a random chance to randomly cure its own status in battle. The pokemon will also acknowledged you before a battle by looking back at you, or giving a slight gesture.

All of these are exclusive to In-game Battles. They do not transfer to Peer-to-Peer battles for the sake of consistency, and not give one player any inherit advantage over the other.

After fact checking, turns out you only need two hearts of affection to evolve eevee. And all the other in-battle benefits are tier-based, based on how many hearts you have.

When I was playing moon, (low level run. Only get exp from catching pokemon and trainers no exp share, or unecessary grinding), I almost got wiped out entirely by it. Just it.

Infact many of the eevolutions have been tough. I'm guessing because the game forces you to have first form pokemon for a large chunk of the game.
