One my friends thinks that the goal of the games is to win the gyms since Ash never won the league. He basically gets the 8th badge and then quits playing because the game is over.

Op here, some one wanted more knowledge. Essentially he only wants to use the original Pokemon because it's retro, he doesn't hate new Pokemon, he just only wants to use the originals. He also wants to go into competitive games and competitions but while only using the original mons.
