You just have to be obsessive about it. I've gotten shiny ralts and vulpix via masuda method, and shiny eevee via chaining. Then one via chain fishing, and only one truly random one; caterpie.

Random question i can't find a clear answer of, but since most of you are playing Moon: is the day/night cycle really reversed? So 1PM is 1AM ingame? Or is it just cutscenes that are always at nighttime?

It's really reversed, with the exception of the cutscenes at the beginning which are fixed times. Once you get to playing on your own, it'll be night time at noon and day time at midnight

Also: you can chain for shinies with this call for help mechanic exactly pokeradar worked in XY. Better, it has no fail margin. Even better, Adrenaline Orbs increase the rate of extra pokemon for only 300 pokeyen a pop!
