It's not entirely unfeasible. They got update-happy with Smash Bros, and updated ACNL just a week or two ago with a decent chunk of new content.

As soon as I got to the fourth island and there was 1 house, an extremely anti-climatic final kahuna battle, and a "walk here, fight this, repeatx3" "final island trial" I knew they had been rushed as fuck to get it out for the 20th anniversary.

Game ended with a wimper. The league had good music and atmosphere at least though.
