Tbqh, I don't feel any characters in XY had the treatment Dawn got. Serena is pretty borderline though. Just wish they made her origin for her crush on Ash more believable. The anime is designed in a way you can jump in at the start of a new gen and not have to worry about what came before. While XY is the best and most recent saga, a lot of the shows main history takes place in the OS, AG and DP.

I actually view OS, AG and DP as one long continuous series for that reason, because that's what it felt like. Nowadays each saga feels more standalone.

At the end of DP, they gave a false report to Giovanni where they said they defeated Team Galactic and Hunter J and they got promoted.
Their goal was to find pokemon living in Unova , meteorites and some other missions.

At first there was supposed to be a Team Plasma but it was scrapped because of the earthquake.
TR got an arc where they tried to get Meloetta and the 3 genies. TR grunts and Giovanni appeared as well. He battled Ash for a few seconds and technically wins but later on he understands why they tried to catch that Pikachu.

Later on they become more comedic but had good moments in the Episode N where they help to defeat Team Plasma.

They are either loved or hated in this season because they are most of the time serious and there are people who preferred the comedic TR.
James' Amoongus also defeated Pikachu once.

Meowth also joined Ash's group for a few episodes.

It's also the first saga where TR don't appear in all the episodes.

Both Brock and TR ran their course by the end of AG, DP at the latest.

AG was fairly similar to the later portions of the OS so Brock and Team Rocket still felt similar, but once DP started it was obvious they felt out of place.
