Technically Underground did not return for Gen 5, but I suppose that was due to Sinnoh's geographical region overall.

Just when I thought MMing couldn't get worse with no shiny charm until January.

Gen 3 didn't immediately provide you the National Dex. So on their own, R/S were the first games in the series to seemingly drop several Pokemon out of existence if you weren't psychic and didn't know Colosseum/FRLG/Emerald would eventually span the gaps in the dex. It was a pisstake when it first happened.

Gen 4 took away Secret Bases, if you consider those important.

3rd instalment features almost never make it to the next gen. You have missed that a basic Following Pokemon mechanic was in Yellow, a handful of things in Crystal, and so on.

One of those Poke Pelago things let's you raise one stat by 8EVs every 30 minutes or something. There are things in not-Join Avenue that let you raise EVs as well, but ultimately it looks like it's just quicker to do it the old fashioned way.

Eh, Secret Bases I think should come back in some way. Maybe keep the huge variety to just OrAs, but some customizeable room or home in every game would be great. As for Contests/Pokeathalon, we should at least get a variant. Hoenn has Hoenn contests, Sinnoh Sinnoh contests, Johto the Pokeathlon, and Unova the musicals

Honestly, they should expand on the idea of a non battle centric sidequest and make it an optional way to progress through the main story for the sake of variety
