It depends on your team composition. You can cheese it to a certain degree. For example, I had a Charjabug with a positive ATK nature that I had been using as my main mon (I mistakenly thought that Vikavolt was good) and it beat the shit out of Totem Wishiwashi. I caught a Wishiwashi and it oneshot the Totem Sandazzle because Wishiwashi is strong enough to solo the rest of the game.

Lurantis died to Bug Bite quickly, but I did focus the additional pokemon.

However, I remember losing a few pokemon to SPOILER UB-01, which also gets the totem boost because holy shit those STABs.


If you're looking for a challenge, I think that if you didn't use the EXP share, it'll be a tough gen.

From what I've played so far, it's much better than XY and ORAS. If you see the EXP Share as an optional EZ mode, then I think it's pretty good.

The Ride pokemon are fresh and by far superior to HMs. Having Z-Crystal users on every route that can be unlocked by beating all the trainers is a fun bit of extra challenge. Since they give you (and use) items like RED CARD, it's fun to unlock them and battle with them.

The silly little minigames like Sea Cucumber throwing and finding babby bears is an entertaining way of making money and really helps to bring the region to life. It feels less video-gamey than the other iterations of Pokemon.

My only gripe is 2-3 pokemon syndrome on trainers.

I just went to the Recycling Plant on Ula'Ula and the bald guy mentioned that Smug style is from someone always trying to act cool. Passionate is from 50 Win streak at the Battle Tree, and Idol style is from "being able to stand above all others in Battle Royal".

I changed my clock to match Daylight Savings time and I saw a noticeable change from sunset to daytime.

However, I ended up losing access to my Festival Plaza Facilities for a while because the game seems coded to detect kids trying to skip ahead to the good stuff.
