Well I remember Greninja as a mixed attacker and with its stats I'm sure it'll do just fine with this set. Pretty much hits everything decently hard.

Is Battle Bond even worth using over Protean? What are the real perks of it that justify continuing to use water shuriken?

SM may not have one, but the next games might. Taking hits is gonna kill you anyway. Best to stick with Hasty/Naive

All Ash-greninja really has over protean greninja is that it would be a better late game sweeper that can KO already damaged pokemon or just U-turn if they switch out knowing you will use Ash-greninja and need that KO. Plus you really need that hydro pump on it so regular greninja can hit as hard as possible so it can get that KO to become Ash-greninja.
