I have to wonder though, why do they continue to make it a thing when Ditto is obtainable in every gen? Especially the last few gens, with gts. It literally makes no difference.

In fact, its arguably faster, especially this gen, given how long a soft reset before the starter takes, to just gts or bank a ditto instead of soft resetting for a female.

Every new gen I hope they change this stupid rule. It seems like such an afterthought of breeding mechanics implementation. Pokemon gender has the potential to play an interesting thematic role like it does with real life animals, but most of the time it's reduced to making you more likely to use a ditto for breeding.

It's even especially nonsensical with starters because you can literally just reset the game over and over until you get a female.

What scientific reason is there for more males than females anyway? I mean, in initial settings, I can see the professors/scientists/breeders wanting to keep females for breeding reasons so when they give the pokemon away there's more males, but when you're breeding yourself, there's no reason for the ratio to even be valid. Males just should not outweigh the females in any logical setting. Females are much more important for procreation than males are.

Most gift pokemon are gender-neutral or masculine looking. There are only a handful of feminine-looking ones but GF loves to fuck with people, so they intentionally stick feminine pokemon they don't like in as gift pokemon.
