Could be more to them. If they are Pokémon from another dimension - it may end up being revealed that they are Pokémon from Gen 8 with future games being set in that dimension.

Alternatively they could be opposites to certain trainers given the similarities that Lillie has with UB-01 and varying other Ultra Beasts. How about a dimension where the character you are playing as is a corresponding 'Ultra Beast'

Ambiguity creates speculation. Speculation creates discussions. Discussions enable people to retain interest in a certain topic for a longer period of time. Keeping people interested in Pokémon means they are more likely to make a purchase. More purchases equal more money.
