I understand that you'll eat their literal feces from their anus as long as they put that shiny Pokemon logo on it, but I can be critical of design mistakes if I want to be. I will still buy the game, I'll still use Rowlet. But I don't have to lick their boots no matter what they hand me, considering I'm a paying customer and they aren't doing this out of the kindness of their hearts.

Shadow Sneak is a decent bet. I don't think this stat set is totally fucked. It isn't going to take OU by storm without a busted ability, but Spirit Shackle being 80 BP is nice, and mixed offenses provides potential unpredictability. If it gets good moves it could work fine.

I'm just so confused. How is the scrawny, light, archer owl a mighty glacier? In concept and design I love this Pokemon. It is becoming one of my favorites. I don't need it to be a competitive monster but I don't want it to be dead weight either. Consider my previously astronomical hype slightly shaken.

It looks mediocre for competitive. The low speed really kills. It could be a decent mixed attacker if its speed was better. Defenses are low too. It just doesn't look like it will do particularly well anywhere.

For ingame, it's still bad. Low speed means it's always going to take damage before it can attack. I noticed there are a lot of Alolan pokemon that look like they'd have a lot of status moves, so it's constantly going to be paralyzed/poisoned/etc. so you're always wasting items on it. It's defenses are mediocre so it's probably going to die a lot too. It doesn't seem like it would be fun to use one to play through the story with

Why are people freaking out about the owl stats? I only care about in-game stuff, not competitive, so why should I care? If Gen 6 is any indication, the NPCs will be laughably easy to beat with any stats.

I think it's salvageable with a few good moves + the typing. Grass/Ghost means it resists 5 types and is immune to 2, couple that with a good HA and it could mean OU.

Consistent with what? Your perception of what a "ghost" should be, which is entirely subjective. Gamefreak is clearly pushing the boundaries on this traditional idea. If the design isn't good enough for you, wait for the dex entries.

It's absolutely not just my perception, no matter how much you want to make this my imagined problem. The reality is that there are design themes that go along with each type (though, Fairies are literally all over the place at times). That's part of what makes the game more immersive or "believable", is an adherence to themes and conventions as often as possible. And Ghost types have an almost PERFECT track record of conveying their typing in the design, so that a player can say "yea, I could understand how this looks like a ghost type" without having to push lore or signature moves to justify it. They usually do that as well as justifying the lore and ghost attacks through the design.

It's not going to ruin my experience, but it's just another blemish on a franchise that sometimes has mishaps for reasons I can only speculate at. I'm guessing this was meant to be flying and grass from the get-go, but some management type decided to take it in a different direction (another fast grass starter? And flying isn't the best secondary type... This gen is about shaking things up, so let's SHAKE THIS BIRD). So the easiest thing to do was just give it new stats and moves instead of changing how it looked or the animations they already decided on beforehand. After that, tweaking the forest guardian lore to fit a more spiritual theme was easy peasy. This is just speculation but regardless, They could have done better to make it fit the type better.
