ITT: Pokemon evolutions you like MORE than their previous stages.
This bad boy's underrated as hell and the best looking from the line and I'll take that to the grave.
>>29691151
Fuck Eviolite for making Dusclops more useful than Dusknoir, this guy is just awesome and should have been given a boost, not a fucking eviolite for it's pre-evo.
Never got the appeal of Dewott. It doesn't even look strong, wise, or noble compared to it's evo.
>>29691151
I'm pretty meh on Shinx and Luxio, but this guy is pretty cool. Shame he suffers from "PHYSICAL ELECTRIC" syndrome.
>>29691315
If Samurott had completely different pre-evolutions and WASN'T a starter, it might have been saved.
>>29691428
Samurott's is fine as an Oshawott evo. Its just bad for a starter as its the biggest design jump from the first form when starters are the most beloved pokemon in your party.
>>29691315
If it was either quad or on two legs it would be fine. Now it's just an awkward middle thing
>>29691512
I think Oshawott is the problem, really.
Just have it Dewott -> Samurott. Pokemon that only evolve once tend to have bigger jumps in designs.
>>29691315
Samurott should have been bipedal, but it's certainly still better than Oshawatt and Dewott to a lesser degree.
>>29691151
My fucking nigga
I don't like Spritzee or trade evos so I'm double fucked
Dratini and Dragonair do absolutely nothing for me. Dragonite at least has cuteness going for it.
>>29691151
the first form of hi is way better
>>29691151
>>29691182
Dusclops is not better than Dusknoir. It certainly was in Gen 5, but due to the Knock Off buff, Dusclops having no offensive presence whatsoever and it being set up bait for any special sweeper or anything carrying substitute, making Dusknoir the better PU-shitmon

Mah niggah
I like the entire Treecko line, but Grovylefags who hate Sceptile can fuck right off.
The entire line is great
He's mybro_____
>>29691315
I like the other two, but Samurott is by far my favourite.
Also I prefer most evolved forms over their pre-evolved forms.
>>29693974
Treecko is my favorite pokemon period. Always has been, probably always will be. But I've always disliked both Grovyle and Sceptile. It wasn't until Mega Sceptile was revealed that I started to lighten up on the overgrown tree velociraptor.

>tfw all it needs is a +10 to attack and it would be good
I tend to not really hold an opinion on the first and second stages of Pokemon. If I like a mon, it's pretty much just gonna be the final stage of it.
>>29695744
it needs a good physical STAB move, shadow sneak and shadow punch don't cut it.
It gets shut down pretty hard by toxic and burn too, since it's so slow. Just from personal experience.
>>29695221
I like whole line too, though lots of people find Dewott a more preferable design when Samurott actually looks like a strong and reliable pokemon to have.
Bad opinions coming through.
Granted, its not by a whole lot since I love the whole line, but I do like it quite a bit.

I really like the line as whole
I like how each stage seems very distinct from each other
I find it interesting how the line presents the most terrestrial otter as a quadruped, and the otters that live their entire lives out in sea are the bipeds.
I like how the shells become more like kusazuri with each evolution, an interesting application of their ribbed appearance, and that the kabuto helmet is a murex shell.
I like how the murex shell not only doubles as a kabuto helmet, but its ornament can be used for a polearm for Samurott. Animal horns for a kabuto ornament being used like how an animal would use its horns is a very Pokemon idea to me.
I like how Samurott furthers the samurai fighting theme with polearm and sword fighting, an upgrade from Oshawott and Dewott's tessen fighting
I like how Samurott's fighting styles are dynamic. Other Water types don't have ways to fight on land unless they are represented as floating in the air. Every Water starter starts off as a cartoony mascot and becomes a realistic depiction of the same aquatic animal, which makes it difficult to depict it as a realistic biped towards the end. Blastoise and Feraligatr in particular are noted to struggle standing the way they do. With Samurott being a quadruped, the problem is mitigated. Sure, the swords are not favorable in every situation, but the polearm method is never out of the question whether on land or sea.
I like how Samurott being quadruped gives variety to the starters. It distinguishes itself from other Water starters, as well from the growing number of starters with human like qualities that become bipedal in the end. Variety is nice sometimes in Pokemon.
I like how the sea lion influence distinguishes Samurott as a armor-clad, war ready samurai from the type of samurai Dewott is based on

I like how they handled how retractable claws are handled. Retractable claws are rare outside of cats, and they gave one of the few animals that do have them zero digits. However, as >>29691512 shows, the shells the line has are made of keratin and are equated as the lines' claws. The whole idea that the line has keratin manifested as shells that grow, retract, ripped off and reattached seamlessly is such an odd quirk, yet it is important because the samurai theme hinges on this idea that only Game Freak would come up with. Even the lines' gnarly facial hair hallmarks how odd of an idea this is. It's an interest touch at the end that, despite the changes in appearance and utility of the shells throughout the course of the line, shiny Samurott's chest pattern looks like Oshawott's chest shell.
/vp/ will never like Samurott, and I don't blame it. I was in the camp that disliked the line when Oshawott was revealed and Wottergate happened. Over time, and over several depicitions, I've really grown to the ideas and how they were executed in the line. I wholeheartedly agree that showing Samurott using its swords on land is as helpful in making a case for it as shooting yourself in the foot. I don't particularly see a problem with Razor Blade being executed with the polearm since it's still a blade made from the same material as the swords. Even more puzzling is that Gen V introduced other quadrupeds in the same generation that used blade-based moves and did them with the horns on their heads. Razor Blade also lost any connotation of being a scalchop/seamitar-exclusive move in Gen VI. I don't think Samurott being a quadruped is an inherent flaw, especially when it has ways to fight given any situation integrated into its design that are a thematic upgrade to Oshawott and Dewott. I'm just disappointed in the one track approach of how it fights throughout its depictions, despite all the interesting ideas and concepts they put on an otter.

>>29691151
The entire rest of the line is an embarrassment to Duskull. Duskull deserved better.
>>29697715
The (You)s say otherwise.
>>29697715
I thought it was nice, though I didn't read all of it.
