Didn't get that great of pulls as far as ultra-rares/regular-rares go, but I got all of the plain secret rare cards, a Mega Charizard Ex, and a Slowbro Ex.

Lots of decks put down stadiums in the first 2 turns, it's very viable to parallel city someone to 3 in the first turn so their bench is clustered and they can't hoopa, shaymeme, etc

That being said, discarding 3 cards early usually means diddly shit since usually you have 2-3 garbage cards in your hand. If you still can't do shit on your turn with your remaining cards then you lost anyway.

Ironically, this Charizard is one of the more usable cards in the set.
200 damage for two attaches on the type with the fastest acceleration in the game is no joke. In Expanded, Charizard + Bangle OHKOs the format off a single Blacksmith + DCE. It outpaces Entei and Charizard EX, which are considered two of the best Fire attackers in either supported format.

The fact that you have to detach three energies is what makes it completely unusable, in addition to the inherent slowness of being a stage 2. 230 for a DCE + Blacksmith would be insane if you didn't lose all of your resources each time you attacked. If it were just two, you could at least sustain it with Blacksmith alone. But nope, apparently that was too good. Even if the card already has a number of other problems: water weakness, garbodor weakness, enhanced hammer weakness, slow-ass stage 2, etc.

Well, after the initial Blacksmith + DCE, you only need a Blacksmith + hand attach to swing again. And don't forget you only need to attack three times to actually win...unless your opponent isn't running an EX, in which case you can use a secondary attacker to deal with it.

Pokemon very rarely has archtypes. Each Pokemon Type generally has specific support cards that influence their design, but that's always been a secondary factor and barely actually changes how a deck is conceptually built outside of particular examples. If by archtypes you mean color, then Pokemon is much, much looser when it comes to that, since you only need type-specific resources to attack, not to actually play and use each card.

You normally pick a single Pokemon and build around it. If you look at tournament results:

You see how decks are listed by their main Pokemon as opposed to some conglomeration, because the deck's focus is all that really matters.

Almost every single card found in theme decks is literally unusable in an actual competitive environment. Pokemon has a huge power gap between its filler cards and the cards that are usable.

And very few competitive cards actually use coinflips. The only ones I can think of that you might run into are Crushing Hammer, Prof Birch's Observations, BP Slowking, and I'm not sure what else. They're very rare for obvious reasons.

Right now I would say that the best decks for challenge grinding are the Zygarde and Noivern decks. They both have two mons that can deal 120 damage with only 3 energies. Usually you just need to load up one of those guys to get all 6 prizes since the AI is retarded and keeps putting all its energy on the mon that will get slaughtered next turn.

Finally got my 4x Latios-EX and 4x Latias-EX
Gotta say, maybe just because I'm in the shitter tiers, but the latter more consistently gives me wins through sheer field presence when their first instinct is to counter Latios with Bouffalant. Flip to Latias as soon as I satisfy the retreat cost and they concede

(The other mons are 1x Phantump -> Trevenant -> BREAK and 2x Psystorm Gallade line)

Chain-trading to get those EXs probably wasn't the best use of packs but I'm having tons of fun with them. Along the chains I got a bunch of other EXs too.

I got my first 100 points with a Straight Outta Theme deck of 4x Stalldong and 4x CC Raichu deck, with a Kyurem-EX (my tutorial completion EX) and Audino-EX (which I got while chain-trading for Lati@s). I had to drop Sycamores for Shaunas because the stall's so hard I decked myself out a few times before growing wise, but still top fun. Shutting down EXs with 20 damage a turn is jokes.
