I'm in the same position as that guy. When I play a new game for the first time, I also try to make a team with only new pokemon (pretty much for the same reasons he mentioned).
It doesn't stop me from using an old pokemon in a future run, because I know I play the games more than once, with different teams.
In the case of gen 6, since there were not that many new pokemon, I ended up using some old faves. Same thing may happen with gen 7.

I have a lot of favorites. A lot didn't make it but many others did. My all time number 1 is bulbasaur. If it's not available that is something I could work with IF you give me a grass/poison replacement. I got nothing. There are a lot of grass types and Decidueye is so good that I wont be too sad.

I'm happy with the Arora pokedex. It just seems strange that there is no grass/poison since it has been so common in the past.
