But yeah, pokémon is flawed from the base. There isn't many ways to make the games challenging and fair without making the player constantly backtrack to a healing spot.

There are these things called healing items.

That doesn't make the games more challenging, it makes them more annoying. Where's the fun in winning a battle and getting some money, but losing enough hp/pp that you have to go to the shop to spend more than what you earned to buy a couple of healing items? In the end you end up doing the same running back and forth between the challenging trainers and a place where you heal your team or buy items to heal your team.
