I was thinking the same thing going too actually.
I know the whole point of the game is trading, but it bothers me if the pokemon isn't mine originally.
I think they should add a way to evolve trade evos by yourself, but only make it accessible post game. Maybe bill can build a machine to simulate a pokemon being traded or some shit.
I bet even people who did have someone to trade with would prefer this method over actual trading

I said I have friends, or at least people who say they're my friends at the moment, I can't read their minds to know for sure.
None of them play Pokémon, and I would be extremely suspicious of any person who offers to be my friend for the purpose of trade evolution.

I cannot control the choices of other people, and if I fail, the pokémon I traded to them is in their possession forever.
There's always the possibility that they've been lying the whole time, or that they change their minds at the last second. I am completely at their mercy.

It's not bad on it's own, it has reasons to exist, helps the game focus a bit on the social side of things but it also underlines how badly constructed the "competitive" side of Pokémon is built around.

I don't see why this would be a problem. The pokemon evolves immediately once it reaches the other player, so them putting an everstone on it wouldn't make any difference.
