4Kids' censorship was retarded but the writing and dubbing was usually pretty good. I'm not sure what it is about the TCPI dub but it feels really dumbed down and the dialogue is trite and generic as hell. Some of the recent movies aren't too bad though

I personally disagree. I rewatched the movie in English this summer, and that was the point where I realized I couldn't even stand Ash's original English voice anymore. Even Lugia's melody felt very "4Kids" to me. I hadn't seen the movie in Japanese at that point, but there was just something about that sound that made it seem overly cartoonish or dramatic. When I watched the movie in Japanese, I enjoyed it much more.

This movie made me pick Silver, man. Lugia was on my first team, and remains my favourite legendary to this day. The strategy guide I had basically said "Typhlosion and Lugia will defeat most of the Elite Four by themselves" and so that's what happened.

It has more of those fantasy-vibes and is rather calm. Reminds more of a rather small, idyllic lake.
Whereas the english one is more powerful, like a raging sea.
They both fit to this water theme, but the english one fits better to Lugia, since it's this powerful and majestic creature.
