Pokémon games are designed to be drop dead easy. Though I'll give Gen 1. It's still pretty hard today. But every since S/G/C especially if you know the in's and out's of the Pokémon game formula, than the games are pretty easy and you know what to expect from literally every NPC.

The only remotely difficult thing about the games (even though these have been made easier too) are things EV trainging, shiny hunting, catching legendaries, finding certain mons, etc. And the only thing that makes it hard is just the fact that most of these just take a lot if time to accomplish.

It literally has always been easy. I thought it was difficult when i was a kid but replaying Blue i defeated the pokemon league with only 4 pokemon all atleast 10 levels underleveled. Only Lorelei game me a 'challange' by your definition, everyone else I stomped.

1.they never were hard

Not true early on. I literally started another X playthrough yesterday and got up to Cyllage city with just fenniken and it hasn't turned into a 1 hit k.o fest yet.

Granted, the average player doesn't play with just 1 pokemon though and you're pretty much expected to expand your team past the 1st or 2nd badge.

And the point of the OP just completely flew over your heads. I'm not arguing whether pokemon as a franchise is easy. I'm saying it has never been easy to the point where it's just a 1 hit k.o fest, the only exception is if you austically grind your pokemon to a high enough level, play with the Gen VI exp share on, or like another anon pointed out, play with just 1 pokemon which would only apply midgame where your pokemon would get overleveled from soaking up exp that was meant for multiple other pokemon.

If you can't beat the Kanto elite four with a team of level 50s, regardless of whether it's RBY or FRLG you should consider just dropping pre=Gen VI Pokemon entirely.

The good ones you don't need to grind in. Just defeating everything you come across is enough to put you in the right level range for the good ones.

And barring constant team replacement (as you would need to grind the new lv6 mon up to the lv30 everyone else is), Pokemon has done a good job of that....
At least before Gen6. The ExpShare in those made you over leveled in those by a good 20~30 depending on how often you swapped out mons.

Just reached E4 on Y, killing everything with a level 80 marowak and some bird. Other Pokémon refuse to catch up in level

I played through Red again recently on VC, and I'm calling your bullshit. I completed the game with an average team level below 45. I used less than 5 revives during the E4 and did not save between fights. Afterwards, I proceeded to make my way through Cerulean Cave to capture Mewtwo.
