They are. I'm not even talking about stats. Their design capture exactly what Pokémon is, or at least was about.

Gen II is also good save for Meganium which is utter shit. Gen III is when small and slim became the norm and things started to go downhill. I'm not sayin they're bad, but they are not a fucking tank like Blastoise or Venusaur or even Charizard, who's a bulked dragon.

That's why Torterra is so good. It's exactly what the final evolution for a starter should be like. Not something like Greninja.
