I honestly have next to no positive feelings for Amour anymore. I tried to be nice, I’m very respectful of Serena’s feelings for Ash (though I find them hopelessly one-sided and doubt they’ll come to fruition based on Ash’s current canon personality), I always write her (and them) realistically if I choose to include her in my fics. I literally do nothing wrong other than use my creative license and right to free speech to have an opinion, voice it appropriately, and consider alternatives. Seriously though, while I had tried before to be supportive in the best way I knew how, I am at the point where I see literally no good in this ship anymore. It’s an eyesore, as is most of the fanbase. I know - I do - that there are good fans out there, realistic fans… but their cries to be heard are drowned out by the ignorant brats who think they’re so entitled that they can relentlessly bash anyone with an opposing view.

It's the year 20XX, and after the failure of Gen 1X, Gamefreak and TPC decided to fold and sell their assets to Sony. You're the man in charge of the anime this season, and one of the executives comes over and tells you the anime is also getting axed, and to give Satoshi whatever closure you want him to have, as long as you don't exceed the miserable budget left.

What do?

Even an Amourshipper admitted (in a commentary that I’d read) that Serena herself didn’t truly remember the special boy she’d met when she was younger until she saw Ash leap off of Prism Tower and she noticed the similarities between the two of them.

I’m not really sure I agree with either of those, but I suppose the latter statement makes some sense since the memory wasn’t aired until after she saw Ash on television. If the XY series had opened up with vague flashbacks, then I could see how he had always been on her mind but… yeah…

My thing is just that, you don’t become friends with someone after knowing them for ten minutes. I’m sorry, but no. Even Ash, who makes friends easily, would need a bit more convincing before automatically calling Serena his childhood friend. And any other source that this trope would use as evidence to support itself would undoubtedly contain a list of multiple pairs who’d known each other for months or years before being separated from each other

Okay, but let’s think about how amazing and valuable Misty’s line in Revelation Lugia/The Power of One is.

The dub translated it as: “He’s never alone because he’s got me.”

The original sub was: “He’s my burden.”

No matter how you look at it, the sub was much more telling about Ash and Misty’s relationship than the dub was.

Misty, a ten year old girl who has spent the past however many hours, days, weeks, months trying to convince everyone who jokes to her about her flirtatious relationship with Ash that there’s nothing going on there has just admitted out loud without any negative context that she is taking responsibility for her best friend’s life. She says this while smiling, as if it comes naturally, as if she’s accepted it all for what it is. He’s not her burden in an unfavorable sense. She cares so freaking much that she accepts the duty to selflessly care for and take responsibility for Ash’s life no matter the repercussions with a smile on her face.

I’m not sure why some interpret Pokeshipping negatively as “Misty pinning and waiting for Ash”. I mean yeah there’s probably a poorly written fic out there that portrays her like that but that’s not really so in canon.

I think it’s because she’s not “mobile” like other Poke girls and stays in one place that somehow means she’s sitting around waiting for Ash to sweep her off her feet. Even though the whole point of the Chronicles Episode “Cerulean Blues” was to show how independent she was, learning to do things completely on her own with the instant support of Ash and Brock. And even though she misses them she recognized the Cerulean Gym as her place and her calling and she fully dedicates herself to being it’s Gum Leader.

I don’t see what’s wrong with her probably thinking about Ash and wondering what he’s doing (which she DOES, given she was watching the Hoenn League and sent Ash her lure as a good luck charm for Brandon) that’s what friends DO after all, but it doesn’t become her only reason for getting out of bed. She has her own life and responsibilities, but at the same time Ash is still apart of that life and there’s nothing wrong with that.

To be honest, I think their farewell scene in GCYL is practically perfect. There’s tons of fluff, a lot of support, we get to see Ash being not just a good friend to Misty in general but also we hear him speak her praises and show her respect as a trainer. On top of that, when Misty is actually riding away and makes her statement about finally knowing how he feels with that soft smile on her face, not only does it present a sense of positivity and hope to me as a fan but it also leaves the door wide open to their future. Despite Misty leaving, despite the ever-growing distance between them since Johto, there’s still the potential for ~something~ to happen, you know? There was so much emotion and intimacy worked into their departure from each other - and I think that was all necessary because Ash and Misty have always had the least defined (in words) relationship between our dear main protag and all his friends/traveling companions.

They started off clearly not liking each other, then there were small moments of awkward acceptance, but of course those were crippled by Misty’s quips at his ego and Ash’s stubbornness towards admitting he might have been wrong for once.

Meh. If you're going to post Pokeshipper rants, at least post the ones reaching to the kiss.

It was an issue for me, I don't like it.

I remember reading a long time ago someone on Tumblr’s “review” of Ash’s goodbye scenes with all of his companions and the person said that Ash and Misty’s was too worked up and emotional. I have never once disbelieved something so strongly (okay, maybe that’s a lie, but I’ve never disbelieved something so strongly about my OTP at least). Ash and Misty needed the emotional build-up in their final episode because they spent three regions’ worth of travel never really speaking aloud what they thought of each other, how they felt, how much they earnestly cared for each other despite their shaky beginnings, what had changed, how happy they were at some point to be as close as they were to one another even when, at the start, all Ash had wanted to do was shake his violent female stalker off his tail. Instead there were fractured moments of hey, you weren’t so bad back there crippled by much more common quips of geez, you need to retake that course on proper Pokeball throwing. Misty says as much herself in GCYL, that it felt like Ash didn’t give a crap despite all they’d persevered through. And that’s why the following scene is a clear depiction of Ash giving Misty the recognition she craved all along. That’s why their goodbye is so on point. (And that’s just the friend stuff, not the obviously romantic stuff.)

Serena kissing Ash on the cheek marks the third time a girl has done that but the first time someone did it without Misty there. When Melody did it, Misty was visibly annoyed and jealous and when Bianca/Latias did it, she was so shocked she dropped Togepi. I reckon she would have had a similar reaction this time too had she been there to witness it. Considering she was irritated with Melody for a lot of the 2000 movie, I think Misty might have had some friction between her and Serena, with the latter feeling intimidated by how well Misty knows Ash and the bond Ash shares with her.

Does anyone know from what anime did the song come from?

Perhaps you remembered how excitement filled your veins every Friday night. You were anxious to know what will happen to Ash next. When he won against powerful trainers, your cheer was like the cry of 300 jubilant Spartans! And who could not forget your sheer amazement, every time Ash had a new Pokemon in his team. Such childhood bliss isn’t it!

It’s astounding that the Pokemon anime still thrives after many years. The new Pokemon games certainly contributed to the series’ survival. For Ash, that meant more Pokemon to catch and more gym battles to win. I’m an avid Pokemon fan since childhood. Unfortunately, my love for the anime dwindled to the point that I lost my patience watching it!

What all these posts really do prove is Pokeshippers really did react exactly how we predicted they would if Amour went canon or had a big moment like it did with the kiss.

They're still the same bitter, butt-hurt, angry shippers they were 14 years ago when Misty left. Its funny because we all predicted they would have a meltdown because of Amour and seen by all these copy/pasted tumblr posts...we were right.

So I just wanted to say, don't get too discouraged! I mean, yeah, it upsets me, but none of this means that Amour is canon or that Poke is sunk.

Beause it was almost all from Serena's side. Ash was definitely moved by what she did, but he didn't act as if he reciprocated her feelings. There's a lot of talk about how his eyes sparkled, but just because he was touched and happy that someone he thinks a lot of likes him, doesn't mean his feelings are the same. He didn't blush and it seemed like he didn't really know how to respond at first; seemed kinda shocked to me. Interesting that he didn't act that way until she actually kissed him, as opposed to when she confessed... Anyway, that think about him moving his foot? Yeah, she was leaning on him. He probably had to balance to keep them both from falling. You could look at the kiss as kind of an anti-hint, the anti-hint, for Amour (though I'm certainly not saying that that's the most valid interpretation or anything).

And that brings me to Poke. Misty's still the only girl who he got jealous over and super-embarrassed about. One commenter on Youtube said that if Misty had done what Serena did, Ash would've blown his top, and yeah, I agree. The thing that really bugs me with what happened is, what do the writers intend for it? Are they giving it a hopeful spin?

But then, Ash's Japanese voice actress still cares about Misty and her relationship with Ash. Maybe the writers will let her decide who he ends up with (I mean, I know of at least one time where that happened in a show; I think sometimes writers feel like the voice actor embodies the character). And many of the same writers who wrote Poke are still there. Maybe they wanted to ship Ash with someone because it makes for a cute and interesting character and dynamic (and good ratings XD), but they didn't want Ash to feel the same. I remember how, even after Misty left, the writers kept focusing on her relationship with Ash in her special episodes. Clearly, they didn't intend to show that she'd felt friendzoned or gotten over it. In fact, they made it a point to say that she hadn't. Which really surprised me, actually; wouldn't it have been easier, and more in line with Pokemon's general tone, to have her be fine with leaving? I man, Pokemon's a show where everyone's friends forever and confident about that; to have Misty so hung up on it and conflicted about what to do said to me that no, what we saw in her wasn't just us, that it really was written into her character... and that she and her relationship with Ash were important enough to them that they didn't want to have her get over it and bounce back right away. And I keep thinking that the reason we haven't seen any hints from Ash for any other girl (nothing that couldn't be interpretted as friendship or brotherly love, anyway) is because they're sticking with their original plan-- he's meant to end up with Misty.

If it was any other anime I would have believed that 2 main characters kissing each other would canonize the involved shipping, but since it's pokemon whose primary aim is advertisement, even a kiss doesn't make a ship canon. However, it does make it closer to canon than other rival ships if Serena is not forgotten and continuity is maintained in Sun and Moon for which I'm really dubious about.

The only way a ship can become canon is through a time-skip kinda hinted by a lost trailer of the first movie which apprarently showed a grown up Misty her sisters and a little girl. I doubt that Pokemon would do that in the next 10-15 years since they have never done it till now. They would continue with a 10 year old Ash meeting with new companions in new regions for as long as they can.

I believe a rival shipping becoming 100% canon shouldn't stop you from supporting your own ship. Harry/Ginny becoming canon didn't stop Harry/Hermione fans from shipping them and arguably has more fan-activity on the internet than their canon rival ship in Harry Potter universe.

To me, it seems like that Ash was Misty's focus in a way that it hasn't been for any of the other girls. She didn't have much else going on in the way of her own goals, so looking out for him and supporting him was her main reason for being there. She's the only one so far who didn't separate from him of her own volition; in fact, she kinda broke down when they had to part. Part of that was probably that she didn't have a choice, and she didn't have a goal to look forward to... But then after that, she felt left behind-- I remember that last part particularly, because, even though there was no way the Misty who I knew wouldn't feel that way, I didn't think the writers would go there... And I was surpised and pleased that they did.

In short, I guess what really appealed to me about Poke was that it was a devoted, selfless love from Misty's side. I mean, Ash and Misty had great chemistry, too, and it was really cute how they ended up caring about each other in spite of themselves... but yeah, that first part is what I felt most strongly.

I've still see Masuda retweet more Amour fanart than any other Ash pairing.

I think he did retweet one or two Ash/Misty arts (I know I've seen at least one), but most of it is Amour. Can't recall if he retweeted any Pearl or Advance ones though.

Ash and Misty have that really nice chemistry that struck my interest years ago. Man, it was such a journey.

This is actually the moment I began to really like Serena too. During the first year of XY she was rather dull outside of her focus episodes, and I was pretty disappointed because I expected her to be handled similar to Dawn because she was a main girl from the games again unlike Iris.

But after those episodes Serena's personality also got a lot more entertaining and endearing. And her character development started in full swing. I don't care about the tripokalon's too much outside the nice animation, but Serena had a massive turnaround in character.
