Try monotype in a Battle Spot format. Makes it way better, even in disadvantaged match-ups.

Unless you're a great player, there are really only certain types you should play as if you want to stand a chance.

Steel fares the best based on its diversity. You've got Heatran, Skarmory, and Doublade for instance to alone cover all weaknesses. Water is another one that can do this with Sap Sipper Azumarill and Gastrodon.

Types like Fire and Dragon play best offensively. Ground can also do work.

I used to play back when Greninja was around, repping Dark, which did well enough.

i like mono. you are probably just bad at it.

So far, gen 7 looks to be pretty healthy for the mono-type meta, regardless of what banlist or format you choose.

Lots of priority-blocking mons for several types helps. New types getting STAB priority. Lots of new type combos. New, presumably stronger mons for type combos that were nigh unusable before, like Normal/Psychic. Z moves potentially helping out some types that had trouble hitting hard before.

Hidden abilities and new attacks might make or break it. They could greatly help balance things, or greatly unbalance them, like gen 6 kinda did.

Ultra Beasts... who knows?

So far I'm only disappointed that Dragon got another fucking 600 BST mon... but I guess Fighting needed one, so whatever.

Having ice monotype team its a world of frustration

Monotype is more fun when you bring a monotype anti-meta team to OU. Gen 6 kind of broke that though, since running into the wrong Mega Evolution is generally an auto-loss.

I played a bit on showdown but I have no actual experience.

Which is shitty cuz I'm about to go to a Monotype Tournament on SM release night. I don't even know what type I'm using.

I usually like using anti-meta teams or just unconventional pokemon sets, but it gets pretty frustrating

Whenever I play showdown I make almost exclusively monotype UU teams, most fun imo

I'll generally always have 5/6 mono and one for spin coverage/hazards if necessary though
