Have you played any non pokemon "Monster collecting" games recently?
Is there anything out of any of these games you think Game Freak should learn from?
>SMT and Digimon both have difficulty options
>World of Final Fantasy's difficulty options come from how fast you want the ATB system to be
>Digimon lets 3 of ANY of the 200+ digimon follow you around
>World of Final Fantasy has multiple save files despite also having multiplayer
Anything else?
YW games usually have a huge amount of extra content

Digimon games have a huge post game

The last non-Pokemon monster collecting game I played was Tales of Symphonia 2.
There were some strong and useful monsters, but in the end, all I wanted to do was to use the human characters I fell in love with.

I've only played Digimon Story recently as a Pokemon alternative but here's what I think Pokemon should take from it:
>streamline attacks so that types of moves (single-target, multi-hit, status move, etc.) have consistent BP across all types (ex. every type has a 120 BP damage-only move)
>IVs grow as you train a Pokemon rather than being random
>EVs are trained outside of battle, but can be gained faster than super training
>hard mode that increases levels/IVs of Pokemon, but offers more reward money
>challenge mode that lets you take on AI teams designed to be broken
>postgame bosses
>mission-based storyline with actual character arcs
>signature moves for each Pokemon with unique animations

>>mission-based storyline with actual character arcs
Let me stop you right there.
Agreed with the rest though.
Though Pokemon kind of already does "Signature moves" and "post game bosses" if you considering catching wild legendaries boss fights.
