FRLG and HGSS got remakes because the originals are completely incompatable with the other versions. ORAS got remakes because we'd have to go through 3-4 different devices to get your mons all the way to the current gen which only the most diehard of Pokefans will go through.

I'm joking about people's opinions on champions. While Diantha is not a powerhouse, people tend to forget that most of previous champions can be swept by one or two Pokemon because of their teams' glaring type weaknesses.
Lance is completely annihilated by Starmie or Lanturn. Almost any water Pokemon can deal huge damage to him as well.
Steven has huge problems against ground types (its only line of defence is Cradily) and both Swampert and Blaziken counter half of his team.
Wallace has only 2 Pokemon not destroyed by electric attacks (similar with grass attacks). Hell, Wallace can't handle enemy's water types as well (bar Ludicolo).
Alder simply can't counter fire types when Bouffalant is dead. He also has problems against some Rock Pokemon.
Iris is slightly better than Lance because she isn't annihilated by ice weakness alone. You also need fighting type.

tl;dr: Diantha is not strong but at least has varied team that encourages using different Pokemon. Only Blue and Cynthia do this besides her.
