Since dragons are starting to rely on puns and nods for a little more diversity, let's play a game.

Come up with a possible inspiration for a Pokemon and justify why it is possible for said inspiration to result in being a Dragon Type. Do note that said inspiration cannot be blatantly a dragon and must be subtle.

Hard mode: no seahorses.

>An actual vampire Pokemon
Because Count Dracula, with Dracula meaning 'son of dragon' and stuff. This Pokemon is not dragonoid in appearance and seems more akin to the likes of humanoid Pokemon such as Gardevoir. Perhaps the pre-evolved form could be a bat? Oh wait, Noivern already did dragon bats!

>Regional Cat
One of many tales in Norse legends has Jormungandr transform into a great cat to be lifted by Thor. The only Pokemon that can learn Assist and Coil throughout its evolutionary line.

A electric/dragon basilisk that paralyze oponent in the begining of the battle. It can also shoot thuders from eyes.
>>
A drag queen dragon

You get the special egg if you put MALE Blaziken and FEMALE Toxicroak in daycare with ODD incence. Egg takes a long time - 60 egg cycles.
>>
A bruce lee inspired fighting/dragon mon because "enter the dragon"

A pitaya Grass/dragon because pitaya is also called dragon fruit.
>>
I'd really like an Amphithere. Aerodactyl's kind of close but eh...

Also more aquatic dragons, please. Dratini/Dragonair are kind of cool but they eventually grow legs and become land dragons. Kingdra/Dragalge are disqualified from hard mode and Palkia hardly even counts.
>>
Snake like Dragon based on a wyrm.

Also, what pun is Alola Exeggutor based on? I haven't seen what it was.

Water/Dragon Pliosaur because we don't have enough badass sea dragons
>>
An aura charging pokemon that turns gold, red or blue depending on its remaining HP. Its battles drag on because of all the charging.

I love Hitmonlee, but a kung-fu Dragon would be a much cooler homage. Like a more humanoid, younger looking version of pic related.

>>
>>29544987
It's based on sawamura. Next you're gonna argue Jackie Chan truly inspirated Hitmonchan's design.

>>29544930
Yes, something like this. Probably with the yellow and black tracksuit colors. Shit would be legit.
>>
>>29544930
Ability: Fists of fury

All "punching" moves have a 10% chance of flinching the target.
>>
>>29544987
Tadashi Sawamura. It says so right there.
Only the japanese name matters in terms of design inspiration.
>>
>>29544820
Dragonfruit.

Also, a small, furry pokemon, much like Rockruff. However, this pokemon is a Steel type. Not because its body is armored or anything, but because nothing offends it. That's right, it's got an IRON will.

This idea has probably been done to death but Bug/Dragon dragonfly

Ya'll fucked it up, Gamefreak

Mega hitmonlee when.

Also, anon, this is justified because it's not actually based on hitmonlee. Localization shenanigans.
>>
>>29544867
A dragon type Hitmonlee mega-evo/regional form then.
>>
>>29545243
Or mega yanmega
>>
>>29545137
No other language except English calls those animals "dragonflies". No one else in the world would get the pun, especially nips.
Bug/Dragon doesn't even make sense typing wise. It's like Ice/Fire.

Draconarius spider.
The perfect candidate for a Bug/Dragon type.
Share its name with a signifier of Roman cavalry that carries a staff ending with a dragon's head and a windsock representing its hair known as draco.
>>
>>29544682
I could actually see that working. But more like an ability that has a low chance of paralysis on switch in if the basilisk looks it in the eye. Or you could have it be an extremely low chance but every turn.

The South China field mouse is known as Apodemus Draco in its official binomial name, offering the possibility for a Normal/Dragon early game rodent.
>>
This is a draco skipper, found in the Rocky Mountains of North America. At this point the Bug/Dragon typing writes itself.

>>29546009
Or an Electric/Dragon pikaclone, I should add.
>>
>>29545438
>Bug/Dragon doesn't even make sense typing wise. It's like Ice/Fire.
Autism. Any typing makes sense if Game Freak wills it. Before Gen 4 Normal was only paired with 2 types. Now it has more type combos than Poison.
>>
>>29545438
>Bug/Dragon doesn't even make sense typing wise. It's like Ice/Fire.
I could say that about Flying/Ground, Ground/Electric, Normal/Dragon, Fire/Water, or Bug/Fighting.
>>
>>29545438
Anon of course it makes sense, dragons aren't real so you can adapt the concept. But i agree on the dragonfly thing.

Dudes, bruce lee Dragon/fighting mon and a Fighting/Dark tiger as a wuxia kungfu duo.
"behind the rock in the dark probably hides a tiger, and the coiling giant root resembles a crouching dragon."
