I grew up with the anime but I didn't play the games as a kid until I was 10.
My first game was Pokemon Pearl and then Pokemon leaf green.

Where the hell did the time go? I've been a fan of the series for 18 years now.

I played Blue first, which I borrowed from a friend. Parents wouldn't drop that amount of money on "just a video game" at the time.
My first -owned- game after I finally convinced them was Crystal.

Age has nothing to do with anything, people who started with gen 4 are eternal babies.

>the "I got Pearl when I was 6" kid will be allowed to post in two years
I'm pretty sure i got Yellow for my sixth birthday, and gave up after not being able to figure out how to exit the starting house.
I got Red from a flea market some time later and played it properly. I still have never finished yellow though.
I'm 19 now.

>putting yellow in same tier as R/B
yellowfags are fucking cancer

Pokemon Red was my first. I just returned from Tokyo, and picked these up while I was in Akihabara. My Japanese isn't good enough to play them yet, but just having the first two titles that started it all, well, it's significant to me.

Started with blue but i dropped the game for being boring. never played the games till diamond caught my interest.
still a baby though

How much did they cost?
I didn't have pokémon games but all my friends had pokémon blue and then crystal, so I played their gameboys when possible. After a lot of time, around Leafgreen, my parents allowed me to buy a gba for pokémon. I stopped at emerald tho.

I stopped at emerald. That's why I think gen 4 and gen 5 look pretty bad overrall.
Started with Gold. Then I went and tried Blue. Even with NONE of the newer, more polished games to compare it to, only Gen 2, I thought Gen 1 felt like a clunky mess. IMO Gen 1's only redeeming quality is that it has some hilarious bugs, like Missingno.
I'm not voting in your shitass rigged poll you dumb frogposter.

the carts were about 1500 yen each, the gameboy pocket was 1900 yen. Even though it came in the box, it was marked as "not guaranteed to work." I took it home, dropped some AAA batteries in it, and fired up like a charm.
