We all know that they try to keep the starters a surprise, GF said so in an interview back in BW (Serperior wasn't a surprise though, Masuda's a hack)

We already have normal seals, quadrupedal felines and mymom'sowl, so they needed to make something different to make them special. The old Pokemon are still there.
It's not like they "ran out of ideas" like some retards say, it's the oposite. Ig noring the faxt that they already said in an interview that they design hundreds of Pokemon each generation and aren't running out of ideas, if they actually didn't have any more ideas they would've made the evolutions just bigger versions of the base form.

The RPG theme isn't present this time around, it was almost shoehorned in. Primarina is a Mermaid Sea Lion, not a Bard or Healer or whatever you want to call it. I doubt this trend will continue in gen 8, but don't expect a "it just gets bigger" evolution for the starters. They need a twist to make them feel special, and have done so since gen 3

I think that's exactly why they did it. Empoleon is my favorite starter. I was just pointing out to the OP that we have had starters with "human jobs" before the last two gens. I hope they do it one last time because it's Fire's turn to get the cool starter and Grass will get the feminine one. They don't really need the "jobs" to do that though

I don't think were looking at the same Blaziken. It looks like a dude with a mask. Those cocks do fight something fierce and I have seen the videos, but it's nothing close to the level of anthropomorphic as this. Emboar is exactly as much disconnected from the source material as Blaziken, but with more details.
