Near flightless and couldn't deal with rats, pigs, and agricultural practices apparently. A bit strange considering several other ground species lasted a lot longer. The line might've not been very plentiful in the first place, or it was more restricted to certain habitats.
Conversely the other native owl the Pueo or Hawaiian short eared owl actually thrived due to said conditions. It gained another egg predator with the rats, but agriculture and settlement gave it plains habitats in which to hunt more effectively. Hawaiian Hawks preferred to catch birds in the rainforests/ had one or two birds per a huge territory, so the Pueo basically got free reign in the expanded open habitats thanks to settlement.

Ghost is one of the types that always has a clear fucking theme. If you want a broad type look at dark or fairy. Ghost is always spiritual, either an unbound/intangible spirit, a possessed object or something occult. Nothing about this owl conveys any of that.
