I really wish this was the true ending for Ash's run as the main character. It was the perfect moment.
XY feels like it was meant to be that. Ash was going to win, he was going to get the girl and he would continue pursuing his dream of becoming a master, but we would get a new character after him. They could've kept him around as a secondary character, but the main focus of the story would be on another kid.

I don't hate SM's premise or the animation at all. It looks like it's gonna be a comfy show. But what prevents me from getting hyped is that Ash is still going to be there and he won't be the same as XY Ash. It will feel like he's a different character altogether. It just won't feel right after all we've seen.
I want to pretend that SM is a spin-off, or some alternate universe, or even pretend that the main character is not Ash. I really hope they sever all continuity. I want to think and believe that XY was the last series with him as a main character.

Like everyone has said: just because Serena is not in the picture, it doesn't mean that she'll leave first. Don't forget, magazine articles always leaves the important things out in the preview. That's why it's called a preview in the first place.

Remember XYZ045? We never expected Ash to ask her out on a date or to say that he'll always be supporting her.
XYZ046 had Serena holding Ash's hand. I still can't believe that she did that. When did she get so bold?

I seriously don't think that we'll get screwed over by the writers that badly. I doubt they'll try and attempt to 'erase' her out of existence entirely. She's too popular now to just disappear from the fanbase and from us.

This. It is why I don't think Serena will leave first. They've managed to pull off some surprises in where we least expected them to be. We didn't expect for Ash to ask her out in XYZ45 and Serena holding his hand before jumping in this episode, so we might get something similar in the next episode and maybe it would be big (from an optimist point of view) or not. Besides, they might even pull off the unthinkable. As Masuda said himself, the age of predictability is over. While he is not directly involved in the anime, the writers might have took note of this as XYZ has broken many old patterns like the water starter curse and Ash reaching the finals.

We can't jump into conclusions like 'oh Serena leaves first because she's not in the battle' yet because like anon said, both the summary and the preview are glimpses of what will happen in the next episode. All we can do now is to wait for the next preview and the episode itself.

All I can say is the future is still uncertain so we have to wait and see what happens before we can say that 'amour is bait', 'ripamour' or anything similar to that. But still, we should be prepared regardless of what's going to happen whether it'll be good or bad.

An open minded conclusion to this ship is what I can think of right now as a proper conclusion to this ship. In that way, when the time has come for Ash to hang up his boots for good, they can use Serena as his one way ticket out of the anime before the new protagonist takes his place in the future.

Regardless of what happens, I will still remain faithful to this ship and vow to never ship Ash and Serena with others except each other.

So....where to start off? We did it bois!

I watched the episode not expecting anything too dramatic to happen. Boy was I surprised. Now imagine my reaction when I watched Serena came running up the escalator to give a smooch to Ash. Not only was that scene incredibly cute, but it was done perfectly, and was the right way for Serena to receive closure for her crush on Ash. If anything, this ship is rock-solid. I'm happy how everything turned out.

The reaction from Bonnie, Clemont, Pikachu, and Dedenne after witnessing the smooch was epic, but reflected how surprising and shocking it was to them (and probably reflected many of our reactions when everything went down). And Bonnie's wink and fist pump to Serena during final goodbyes was funny. It gave off the "Yes I knew it!"/"I knew you would confess!" vibe, in a cheeky way of course. Now everyone knows.

As for the episode itself, the flashbacks hit me on the feels all around, as it brought back many of the important moments in XY, and the scenes during the credits was a nice last hurrah, seeing what everyone was doing after they said their final goodbyes. Definitely going to miss the XY series for what it is worth.

This. I relate to this so much. And it's something that goes for any Ash/main-girl ship (except maybe Negai).

It kinda makes me think... why do people get so invested in shipping in Pokemon? I mean, Ash is dense as a log and is mostly concerned with Pokemon, and his characterization is all over the place. It's never been a show that focuses on romance. Is it because of how the girls are written? That's certainly part of it, for me at least; reading between the lines with Misty, I felt a lot of depth of feeling there, and it really spoke to me. I feel like it's something similar with you guys. I mean, Serena's crush was pretty overt, but when it came to the development of her feelings, that was more subtle (not saying it wasn't there, just that the clues weren't as obvious; it was something that had to be felt rather than known).

But that's not the only reason. Each generation's anime lasts for a few years, and watching it that long, yeah, you get attached to the characters and involved in their relationships. And since this is a kids' show, the focus is on the friendship, how they get to know each other, help each other out, and encourage each other. Don't get me wrong, there are some excellent high school romances out there that really do build up a good relationship between the characters. But here... like I said, those stories typically don't go on for as long. And they usually get closure, too.

The thing with Pokemon is, we get these open-ended conclusions so that nothing's really confirmed or written off, so you're left imagining what might happen. Honestly... as invested as people get, that's probably for the best. I mean, sure, I'd love Ash to end up with Misty, not the least because that'd mean I could let it go... I don't want to care about Pokeshipping forever, not like I do now. But... a lot of other people would be upset that their ships got sunk, and that is not a fun thing to go through. When you've focused so much on something that makes you happy, and then suddenly, it makes you sad instead... You don't want to stop caring, because you don't want to let go of the happy feelings... but you can't help feeling sad at them now, too. So you feel stuck. I think the writers kinda created a monster XD.

Well, that got rather rambling, but... I like to talk about those kinds of things. Obsessive shipping is something that's difficult for most people to understand; part of what's hard about going through a rough patch is that, you feel bad, but you can't tell most of the people around you, because then you'd have to say why, and they just wouldn't get it. That's why this kind of community is important.

For many of us, Pokemon is a kind of comfort zone. A lot of us grew up with it. Part of it feels like reconnecting with childhood. Part of it is because of how long the series has run. 20 years is not a small feat at all. I think that the investment comes from there. He had said goodbye to all his friends throughout his journey. When he said goodbye to Misty, it was tough, he had been through so much with her and Brock. She had literally saved his life, and caught a Poliwag in the process. A Poliwag...

When he said goodbye to May and Max, the boy was sad because his sister doesn't want to depend too much on her brother. Ash cheered him up with the promise of a battle.

When he said goodbye to Dawn, it was Piplup who was upset, being separated from Pikachu was hard on the small penguin.

When he said goodbye to Iris, no one got upset.

And when he said goodbye to Serena, no one was expecting that.

He had always had a soft spot for Serena, helping her through treacherous paths, and conforting her when she needed it. He thought it was because he had met her before, but it was only a few hours ago that he realized why he did the things he did. And what it took for him to realize it. Serena took a leap of faith and kissed him, surprising everyone there.

That had been it. Ash's Eureka moment. It was at that moment that he realized what she meant to him. Being told that he was Serena's goal sort of confused him, but that kiss; that simple, unmistakable moment made him change the filter through which he saw her.

And now here he was, alone with Pikachu, heading off into Pallet Town, to start a new journey. He never forgot any of his friends, but this girl from Vaniville was the girl who won his heart. And he would move Heaven and Earth to see her again.

With the escalator scene the Pokémon anime has reached it's perfect conclusion. After finishing in second place in the Kalos league and only missing out on first place by an inch, and then being acknowledged as the superior trainer by the winner during the Team Flare arc, Ash can legitimately call himself a Pokémon Master. And he gets the girl. And there is the promise that both his an Serena's adventures will continue.

At this point I hope Sun and Moon really is a reboot or an alternate timeline, because this is where the anime should end. The more I think about the more I prefer it ending with Ash still having room for more adventures and to improve than it ending with him being the champion.

Still a shame that they censored a kiss. There's no reason to do that. I had to rewatch the scene just to confirm that the kiss happened in my mind. It was the expressions of Bonnie and Clemont that convinced me.

Okay now that XYZ has ended(the special doesn't count), I have two questions for everyone-

How much did you enjoy Amourshipping?

What will you do now?

As for the first question, if it weren't obvious, I really enjoyed Amourshipping. A large part of it comes from that I find Amourshipping relatable. More specifically, I used to know a girl similiar to Serena who liked me the same way that Serena liked Ash. Her personality was also similiar to Serena. So, well..........that's how I had the energy to come this thread every single day. Because of this, it felt to me as if I could feel every emotion Serena was going through. That's why I enjoyed every single Amourshipping moment very extensively. The TV scene, the childhood scene, the river scene, the infamous date episode(which I liked a lot btw), the half million Miette tease and tomato/shy Serena, the dance and cosplay, the fistbump, the second "date" and finally the elusive kiss. Every moment is wonderful. Every one of them.

Another part of the shipping experience was coming to this thread. Seeing from becoming dead to a thriving community, speculating, hoping, arguing, theorizing, making friends, goofing around, making elaborate jokes, writing quick fics........it's been one hell of a ride. The other part of what made Amour for me was the huge uncertainty attached with it thanks for the sole reason of being Pokemon, a show infamous for sticking with it's "status quo". That made all the time here more exciting and the episodes and the weeks between them more tenseful. Now, all that is gone and we have finally arrived at a satisfying conclusion.

As for what I will do, I'll definitely stick around here, although I won't be as active. As I said before, I really enjoyed this ship and enjoy being a part of this community. I feel like poking around here from time to time just to see how's the love for Amourshipping is going. I might pick up one of the SM shippings just for fun but I'll keep my OTP Amour.

Prior to this, I was somewhat thinking they might end this series without a kiss, but end Serena's SM cameo with her kissing Ash if she has one, as a sort of ending for her character.

Now, though, I don't know where her character would go if she cameos in SM.

So I was preparing for disappointment today, but now I'm wearing a stupid grin on my face from the kiss. The experience has been fun, I'll give it that. The negativity from no AmourShipping hints on this board every week was overwhelming but we survived with some positive reinforcement. I like this ship the most even with the subtle hints and the disappointing dance episode (yes, I was expecting more from it) it was a fun ride. My regret was that I lurked too much on this board and had no interaction with other people in it.
