There's 168 trainer classes in Gen VI, a little over double of ORAS' classes. Steven is there, at minimum.

Also I really want Archie to appear, he's my favorite ORAS character. I doubt it'll happen but if Giovanni can show up at the PWT I see no reason why a reformed villain can't be vacationing and batling in Alola.

Giovanni was a gym leader. Saying that, the trailer did specify that it's Alolan champions who can take on the Battle Tree, so really any character could come back.
