If they actually made an important change like that, they would have announced it already.

There are 5 fairies in OU (compared to 8 water, 9 dragons and 11 steel), it's like the 5th to 8th most used type making it "above average" at best.

Lore wise, Fairies are easily corruptible. In my mind, Dark and Fairy could have been SE against each other. But, it didn't happen so that was that.

Fairy doesn't need a nerf. But if it had to get one, I think giving ghost a buff would be nice. That doesn't mean Ghost has to hit Fiary for SE damage. Ghost could, at least, resist fairy.
