Like I said in another thread, if being based off an extinct animal was the reason then most other grass starters should have ghost as a secondary typing.

I'm fine with the typing though, I think it's there to indicate stealth. Just kind of weird it ever had the flying type in that case. I just wish it looked a bit spookier though.

The reason that this Grass Starter is part Ghost and the others aren't is because it fits the hawaiian theme with the stilt owl. The other starters generally didn't fit anything.

Fossil Pokemon are already all half Rock because they were fossilized. Stilt Owls were discovered before fossils were made of them but after they were extinct.
