In past games, the data for NPC trainer's pokemon was stored in a simplified way which meant that IV and EV spread among other things had to be set a certain way, like all 0IVs or all 31IVs.

As of SM, all of these values can be set independently, so we could theoretically expect opponents to make use of stuff like Hidden Power. This also suggests that they are bringing back NPCs with shinies.

Dio Vento is going to redeem this gen with Nova Sun and Umbra Moon just like Drayano redeemed gen 5 with Blaze Black and Volt White.
