I got out of Pokemon around Diamond and Pearl, and all my old games are lost. The new games look cool, but I'm hesitant to jump back in because I feel like I might've missed too much, and I'd feel stupid for losing all of my old Pokemon from the games I used to have. I would say the best way to get the numbers into the 200-300 per region range is just clone the shit out of old ideas. Just make a bunch of elemental monkeys, it's not like people will give a fuck about them personally and will just buy the game when the number of new Pokemon introduced in a generation is a sign of their good quality.

Even if you can't get all the event legends (Which, through internet connections, is definitely less difficult then it used to be) They don't count towards your in game pokedex. If you get all of them, but the events, then the game considers you good. Even if you get just one event pokemon, it'll still just count your pokedex as complete.
