Orange Islands and Battle Frontier had Ash win, train and evolve his past Pokemon. That's the fulfillment of those two things.

It's not only Z-Moves Ash acquires here, it's also the possibility of Mega Evolution.

I doubt he'll get a Mega since I'd say there is a strong chance of Greninja returning if there is an Ultra Beasts arc and the speculation that UB's are failed attempts and Bond Evolution. But Z-Moves and Megas are a permanent part of the series now unless Game Freak decides to return to the alternate time line where it doesn't exist.

But considering how much influence they have on the games now I could see them being carried over to Gen 8.

That being said I could see Ash learning to use Z-Moves without the bracelet like he learned to use Synchro with Greninja.

You need to think from the perspective that the series isn't going to be pure SoL/Comedy. If Ash travels the islands he'll encounter the guardians, Lunalaa, Solgaleo, Zygarde possibly. For all we know we could get movies similar to Sinnoh with almost there own story continuity.

Makes a bit more sense, pacing wise. Although I doubt they'll have Ash catch the Alolan forms of Kanto pokemon (more focus on the new Alolan Pokemon), so that really limits his team selection.

If Ash didn't get a Mega Stone in Kalos where they debuted, why would they let him get one now?

By all means, the other trainers might probably get a Mega or two (since they all but blew their load of Megas with the Mega Evolution Specials and the Magearna movie), but with no new Megas it seems unlikely.

I dunno; to have Ash use the Z-Moves without the Bracelet would run counter to trying to advertise said bracelet. We won't be seeing any JoJo posing, unfortunately.

I can see a "Pipikek steals Ash's Z-Bracelet and he ends up catching it" episode already.

Tapu Koko is already in the trailers and probably suggests that the Island Guardians won't be antagonistic. We could have a "Hunter J" scenario in the main series, but they don't provide enough material for a movie.

As for the Legendaries, we don't know about their in-story role in the games yet.

On one hand, Ash clearly likes birds, and Rowlet is clearly the Froakie of Gen 7.
On the other hand, he didn't choose Torchic or Piplup, and that may be *because* he always catches the regional early bird and it's better to have more variety as soon as possible.
Either way, I'd say there's a good chance both Rowlet and Litten will fully evolve, because their evolved forms are 10/10 would buy Amiibo and hotglue.

XY had a Mega Ring toy that had Ash and Serena's voice shouting for Pokemon to mega evolve, but neither of them had a ring.

The Z-Ring is similar, they'll advertise it hard at the start of the series because it can be used in the SM games but as time progresses there will be other things to market. Instead of a Mega Ash got AshGreninja which they marketed hard since it's debut. And while Ash may and will likely not get a Mega in SM it allows him to carry over the bracelet for future generations where he may get one. But by Gen 8 they'll likely have a new device to give him and market.

Actually, for whatever remake that happens in Gen 7 we'll likely get a new and improved Z-Ring similar to how in ORAS we got Mega Bangles instead of Rings.

So Ash may be getting an upgrade at some point. That being said the Z-Ring opens doors for the future of Ashs character, whether he acquires a Mega now or long into the future.

As for his him learning Z-moves without the bracelet, who knows. We got chuuni poses with AshGreninja when he goes Synchro and it's popular, they could easily continue the trend by having Ash pose to activate a Z-Move without the ring.

That's another problem that needs to be addressed: will Ash get to keep said Z-Bracelet and Z-Moves? Pikachu got Volt Tackle as an exclusive move to show off in the anime and it got swapped out for Electro Ball the moment it went to Unova.

Well, the only Mythical Pokemon we have is the Guardians of the Islands and Magarnea.

There were less Pokemon like Victini/Diancie created and instead we were given 8 or so Ultra Beasts.

So unless Ultra Beasts are prominent throughout the movies I don't see them featuring mythicals.

We don't KNOW that. Everything is pure speculation until the games release or the game plot leaks.

As for anime Lillie we only know what I said above. Saying she's an UB is only something that is a guess from the games, how that'll effect the route the anime goes we can't be sure until her issue gets addressed and Aether is introduced.

I like the theory that UB's are failed bond evolutions, forced evolutions, or attempts at creating god like Type:Null/Silvally.

Like what if Lillie was there when a UB broke free of containment and it traumatized her. That'd warrant her being afraid to touch them and connect her to Aether.
